President Giovanni Mummolo at the Plenary Session on Future Skills and AI, IJCIEOM 2026, Aveiro

The Foundation European School of Industrial Engineering and Management ETS will be present at the 32nd International Joint Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IJCIEOM), hosted by the University of Aveiro, Portugal, under the theme “Bridging Futures: AI Human Centric Industry and Global Challenges”.
Prof. Giovanni Mummolo, President of the Foundation, will take part in Plenary Session III, “Future Skills, Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in Engineering Education”, on June 24, alongside Sandra Soares, Vice-Rector for Education and Academic Life at the University of Aveiro, Prof. Nelson Zagalo, Scientific Coordinator of the DigiMedia Research Centre, and Marta Correia, Vice President of Education of the 36th Board of ESTIEM.
The session, moderated by Prof. Maria João Rosa, will bring the Foundation’s perspective on the renewal of engineering education into direct dialogue with leading voices from academia and the European student community.
The 32nd edition of IJCIEOM addresses the twin digital and circular transition reshaping industrial and logistic systems, calling for new working profiles, new skills, and a closer integration between human operators and digital technologies through the adoption of AI in human-centric production systems.
The conference gathers researchers and practitioners from academia and industry around themes including Industry 4.0/5.0, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development, and Higher Education in Industrial Engineering and Management, with all approved papers to be published in a Springer book indexed in Scopus.
The participation of President Mummolo reaffirms the Foundation’s role in the European debate on future skills and the impact of artificial intelligence on engineering education, in line with its mission to innovate higher education in IE&M across Europe.
